April 2011 Man jailed for sex assault on girl, 13 A 27-year-old man was jailed for two years when he admitted committing a sexual assault against a teenage girl in what was deemed a drink-drugs orgy.

Judge John O’Hagan heard the girl, aged 13, was frightened when told earlier by Thomas O’Hara, who was 23 at the time, that if gardaí found a young girl drunk, they would beat her up and throw her in a cell.

Donegal Circuit Court was told the girl should have been on a sleepover at a friend’s house.

Instead, they ended up at a party in another house where there was cannabis and alcohol.

She ended up in bed at 4am on March 4, 2007, with O’Hara after he asked her to “go with” him.

Sergeant Tony Cornyn told of the girl seeing O’Hara roll a joint of cannabis and smoke it.

She was given a bong, a large plastic bottle from which she could inhale cannabis, and was told that it would do her no harm.

After taking a sample she felt dizzy.

In the bedroom, O’Hara pulled her trousers and her pants which were ripped in the process and gave her love bites on both sides of the neck.

He digitally penetrated her and asked her for “a blow job”.

She refused and asked him to stop.

A cousin then came into the room and the offence stopped.

Gardaí were notified the next day and the girl underwent a medical examination.

Judge O’Hagan jailed O’Hara, of Carrickbar, Laghey, Co Donegal, to two years and placed him on the sex offenders’ register.

The judge refused to suspend any portion of the sentence.
