MAN JAILED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT OF TEENAGE GIRL ON ISLE OF MAN
A man has been jailed for four years after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a teenage girl on the Isle of Man.
Thomas Murphy had pleaded not guilty to four counts of indecent assault offences, which took place between March and April 2023.
Sentencing him at Douglas Courthouse, Deemster Graeme Cook told the 24-year-old: “You showed no remorse by pleading not guilty”.
Murphy, of Alder Road in Pulrose, Douglas, was also placed on the sex offenders register for life, and given a sexual offences prevention order which will be in force for 10 years.
Deemster Cook added that Murphy had put the victim through the “extreme trauma” of a trial and noted “an element of grooming” in Murphy’s crimes, though he had not been charged with any grooming offences specifically.
“He would buy her anything she wanted,” said the Deemster.
It was highlighted that Murphy was under the age of 25 while the victim was under 16, with Murphy drinking a crate of beer before the assault, which the defence noted as a significant issue.
