April 2016 Pervert who molested and BIT girl of 9 booted off rehab course for failing to disclose his crimes A PERVERT who molested and bit a nine-year-old girl as she lay in her bed was kicked off a rehabilitation course after he failed to disclose his convictions for sexual offences. Paedophile Thomas Morrison (aka Thomas burns) was due to start the course, set up by his local authority, this month. But he was spotted in the car park of a tourist attraction by his victim ’s mum, who thought he was working there and reported his offences to the Scottish Wildlife Trust. The car park, at the Jupiter wildlife centre in Grangemouth is a meeting point for people taking part in the course. It’s understood once his convictions came to light, the 28-year-old was booted off the list and declared “unsuitable”. Morrison was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work for his attack on the child on Christmas Day 2013. His victim’s mother said: “I can’t believe he hadn’t disclosed his convictions. There need to be stronger checks in place for people like him. “My daughter is still traumatised by what happened to her. I have made it my business to ensure that everyone knows what he did and that no family have to go through what we have.” Morrison was a guest at the family’s home when he abused the girl and bit her on the buttocks, drawing blood. Despite DNA evidence from the girl’s pyjamas, the former loft insulator forced his victim to give evidence in court. Morrison was found guilty after a two-day trial in January last year. He is being monitored under multi-agency public protection arrangements and reports to a social worker. A Scottish Wildlife Trust spokesman said: “We understand he was put forward for a rehabilitation programme through the local authority. The programme was not run by the trust, nor based at Jupiter wildlife centre. However, the car park was a meeting point for people taking part. “After being contacted by a member of the public, we made immediate inquiries. As a result of this, it was identified that a serious conviction had not previously been disclosed and that the individual was unsuitable. He was then rejected by the programme before the course had started.” Rehabilitation courses cover a wide range of areas, including gardening, health and safety modules. As a paedophile, Morrison should not be involved in schemes that mean he could potentially have access to children. But the family of the victim were left shocked when he was let off with community service at Falkirk Sheriff Court yesterday, reports the Daily Record. The furious mother of the schoolgirl said: “How am I supposed to go home and tell my daughter, after all she has been through, that he has walked free and is back in the community? “We told her, do the right thing, speak to the police, go to court to give evidence and justice will be done. But there is no justice today. My daughter is still traumatised by what happened to her. I am completely raging.” Morrison, 26, molested the little girl while a guest of her family who were celebrating Christmas in 2013. The former loft insulator kept excusing himself to go to the toilet, knowing the child was in bed upstairs. He was caught after the girl told her granny what he did. The child’s mum kept her daughter’s pyjamas in a plastic bag to make sure the police had Morrison’s DNA. But despite damning forensic evidence, Morrison denied his guilt and forced the girl to give evidence during a two-day trial. He was convicted of sexual assault but Falkirk sheriff John Mundy told him at sentencing: “There is an alternative to custody.” Then, to gasps of horror from the victim’s family, he sentenced Morrison to a community payback order with 200 hours of unpaid work to be completed within nine months. Morrison, who had a police escort when he arrived at court and looked unkempt and unshaven, wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt, was also given a supervision order and banned from returning to the area where the abuse took place. He was placed on the sex offender register for two years. The girl’s mum added: “Two hundred hours’ community service over nine months is disgusting. He has got away with abusing my daughter. “To let someone away with that is outrageous. He got the lightest sentence he could possibly have been given.” Sheriff Mundy passed sentence after hearing how Morrison had suffered since the attack. Defence lawyer Murray Aitken told the court: “The circumstances of this case have had a severe impact on my client and his family. “He has lost employment and his family have been exposed to repeated threats. He has had to sever ties with close family and friends and I would ask you to take this into account. “This was a single incident, on a single day. Although he does have one previous conviction, it is for nothing of this nature. “He has not been in trouble since and has no pending cases against him.” The mother’s anger grew as she listened to the speech. She said: “His lawyer was bleating on about him losing his job and his family suffering. I couldn’t give a damn about them – what about my family? “We are the victims here. He was the one who was in the wrong, he abused my daughter and now he’s got away with it. “What message does this send to other perverts out there?” The mother also insisted that supervising Morrison would have no effect. The attack happened in the girl’s house in the Falkirk area in the early hours of Boxing Day. At the town’s sheriff court, Morrison was bailed and will be sentenced next month after being found guilty of the sex assault. The girl’s distraught mum, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said: “We had told her he was in jail and would be staying there after what he did to her. “He lives five minutes by car from us and we are terrified she will see him.” Morrison, who had worked as a loft insulator, was in the girl’s home on Christmas Day and kept going to the toilet, knowing that his victim was in a room nearby. He was arrested after the girl told her gran about the attack. Her mum said: “The minute I saw the bite mark I phoned the police. “There were other marks as well. But the injuries, you couldn’t argue with. “The evidence against him was overwhelming. “My daughter shares a room with her six-year-old brother. He lay in his bed hearing all of this, petrified.”
