GLASGOW TAXI DRIVER SENTENCED AFTER SEX ATTACKS ON PASSENGERS
Thomas Keenan, aged 54 from Cathcart, Glasgow, is a taxi driver who sexually assaulted female passengers while giving them lifts home from nights out.He was convicted of these attacks in December 2013 and February 2014 and faced jail.
The first victim, a 41-year-old woman, was attacked in December 2013 after Keenan pulled into an industrial estate in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire.
He climbed on top of her, held her wrists, and sexually assaulted her.
She expressed her horror upon learning that Keenan had previously faced complaints about similar misconduct.
The second victim, a 24-year-old student, was assaulted in February 2014 after Keenan drove her from Glasgow to Coatbridge.
She also felt betrayed that authorities had been warned about Keenan’s inappropriate behavior before her attack.
Despite police reports and complaints, Keenan retained his license until police intervened after the second attack, leading to his license being revoked.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ register and sheriff Petra Collins deferred his sentence.
Victims have spoken publicly, criticizing the failure of authorities to act sooner and expressing feelings of trauma, fear, and betrayal.
One victim remarked, 'He should never have been on the road that night,' underscoring the tragic consequences of delayed action.
