MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
Thomas Hobbs, a 78-year-old man from Ovington in Northumberland, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous child sex offences.The sentencing took place at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, September 30, where Judge Penny Moreland presided over the case.
Hobbs was found guilty of ten separate charges, which included rape, sexual assault, and encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity.
These charges stemmed from a lengthy investigation into his conduct, which revealed a disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse.
The court had previously convicted Hobbs in July of these offences, which had been committed against a young girl.
In her sentencing remarks, Judge Moreland emphasized the gravity of Hobbs's crimes.
She sentenced him to 20 years in prison, with a specific extension of one year added to the initial 19-year term due to the significant danger he poses to the public.
