THOMAS DOW FROM FIFE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR REPEATED CHILD SEX ABUSE IN INVERKEITHING AND ROSYTH
In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Inverkeithing and Rosyth, Thomas Dow, aged 41, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of nine years after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and physical violence inflicted upon three young victims over a span of 14 years.Dow's criminal activities included a disturbing pattern of assault, rape, and indecent conduct directed at two girls and one boy.
These offenses took place at various locations, including private residences in Inverkeithing and Rosyth, as well as during car journeys where he was entrusted with the care of the children.
The court heard that Dow's abuse was both prolonged and systematic, causing lasting trauma to his victims.
During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge John Morris KC emphasized the severity of Dow's crimes, stating, "Only a very substantial prison sentence is appropriate for the crimes of which you were convicted." The judge also ordered that Dow, who was previously residing on Park Road, Lhanbryde, Moray, be subject to a two-year period of supervised release following his imprisonment.
This monitoring period allows for the possibility of returning him to custody should he breach the conditions of his license.
Throughout the trial, Dow maintained his innocence, denying all charges despite being found guilty of 13 offenses committed between June 2003 and December 2017.
These included multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, physical assault, and indecent conduct.
The court was informed that Dow continued to deny any wrongdoing, even as evidence against him was presented.
The first victim, a girl, was targeted when she was just seven years old.
Dow subjected her to repeated assaults, which involved physical violence such as hitting, punching, and kicking her head and body.
She was also pushed, struck with a brush, and grabbed by her hair and head.
The abuse was both sexual and violent, with Dow repeatedly molesting and raping her.
Another girl, who was only three years old at the time, was also victimized by Dow.
His abuse of her involved repeated acts of violence, including kicking, punching, pushing, shouting, and threatening her.
He also placed his hand over her mouth and nose, restricting her breathing, and struck her with objects such as a remote control.
The third victim, a boy also aged three, suffered similar treatment.
He was punched, kicked, pushed, and threatened with violence, and was subjected to repeated indecent assaults by Dow.
One of the victims described her experience, saying, "I did not like it when Dow was looking after me because he was abusive." She recounted that Dow would hit her, verbally abuse her, and sexually assault her, often becoming angry when he had been drinking.
Dow's defense team, led by Michael Anderson KC, argued that any allegations of abuse might be motivated by other factors, including possible alcohol issues.
Dow himself claimed that the victims were lying and insisted he was not a bully.
Despite his denials, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the serious charges.
Following his conviction and sentencing, Dow was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
The case has left a lasting impact on the victims and has brought to light the importance of vigilance and protection for vulnerable children in the Fife area.
