THOMAS DOUGLAS FROM KIRKCALDY SENT BACK TO JAIL AFTER BRUTAL ATTACK ON PARTNER IN PERTH

A violent incident has once again landed Thomas Douglas, a resident of Kirkcaldy, behind bars after he carried out a severe assault on his partner, just 24 hours after she had gone to pick him up from HMP Perth.

The disturbing events unfolded shortly after Douglas was released from prison, leading to a court appearance where he admitted to a domestic assault that left his partner with significant injuries.

Thomas Douglas, aged 26, was brought before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to face charges related to the attack.

The incident was described as 'appalling' by the authorities, and Douglas was sentenced to 18 months in prison for his actions.

The assault occurred after he was released from Perth Prison, where he had been remanded since August.

His partner, with whom he has had an on-and-off relationship for approximately two and a half years, had gone to pick him up from the facility and then drove him back to her home in Kirkcaldy.

According to court reports, the couple began drinking alcohol together after arriving at her residence.

The woman woke up the following morning at around 11:30 am to find Douglas asleep on the couch.

By 1 pm, they were watching a football match with two other individuals when tensions suddenly escalated.

Douglas accused his partner of flirting with a friend, which led to a violent outburst.

He started shouting and swearing, then proceeded to grab her by the throat, pushing her into the couch where she was sitting.

Prosecutor Andrew Brown explained that Douglas, who was 26 at the time, held his partner by the throat for approximately ten seconds before releasing her.

The violence did not stop there; he refused to leave the premises and again grabbed her by the throat in the kitchen, this time for another ten seconds.

The assault intensified as Douglas punched her in the face, causing her nose to burst and resulting in visible injuries.

The attack continued with him punching her again on the left side of her face, knocking her to the ground.

He then pinned her down, applying both hands around her neck and compressing it for about 20 seconds.

Neighbours witnessed Douglas fleeing the scene, prompting them to contact the police.

Officers arrived at the scene by 5 pm and quickly apprehended him.

The victim was taken to hospital, where medical staff confirmed she had a swollen nose, bruising under her eye, and bruising on her chest, all indicative of the assault.

During the court proceedings, Douglas admitted to injuring his partner in what was described as a domestically aggravated assault.

His solicitor, Martin McGuire, acknowledged that alcohol was involved and stated, “Parties had consumed alcohol.

Matters very suddenly escalated.

He accepts his response to any situation which arose was completely disproportionate and inappropriate and does have considerable regret.

Alcohol consumption for him is not an option anymore, looking forward.

He has had periods of stability in the community.

He has had periods of employment.” Sheriff Robert More sentenced Douglas to 18 months in prison, with the sentence backdated to August 7, the day he was remanded.

The sheriff described the incident as 'appalling' and emphasized the seriousness of the assault.

Additionally, a non-harassment order was imposed, which will prevent Douglas from making any contact with his victim for a period of three years, ensuring her protection.

It is noteworthy that Douglas has a history of violent behavior; in 2021, he was jailed for two and a half years after admitting to attacking two men—one with a bottle and another with a can—resulting in a fractured eye socket for one of his victims.

This history underscores the ongoing pattern of violence associated with him, raising concerns about his future conduct and the safety of those around him.
