THOMAS BURNS FROM HALIFAX JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN HALIFAX TOWN CENTRE
In a recent court ruling at Bradford Crown Court, Thomas Burns, a 64-year-old resident of Halifax, was found guilty of a serious sexual assault that took place nearly two years ago in the heart of Halifax town centre. The incident involved Burns engaging in an assault on a 12-year-old girl, an act that has now led to significant legal repercussions.
According to court proceedings, Burns was initially granted bail, allowing him to remain free until his sentencing date scheduled for August 10.
The court heard that the assault was precipitated after the young girl approached Burns requesting money.
In response, Burns offered her ten pounds if she accompanied him to a nearby cash machine located in a secluded area.
It was at this location that Burns physically restrained the girl by grabbing her wrists and subsequently sexually assaulted her.
The case was presided over by Recorder Neil Davey QC, who, after reviewing the evidence, decided to adjourn the sentencing.
The judge indicated that, given the gravity of the offence, a custodial sentence was highly likely.
The court's decision underscores the severity of the crime committed by Burns and highlights the ongoing concern over safeguarding vulnerable minors in public spaces within Halifax.
