COVENTRY TEACHING ASSISTANT THOMAS BROWN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN COVENTRY
In April 2017, a disturbing case involving a Coventry-based teaching assistant named Thomas Brown came to light, revealing serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a young girl.Brown, aged 28, was accused of engaging in inappropriate and sexualized behavior with a five-year-old girl while performing his duties at a local school in Coventry.
According to court proceedings, Brown admitted to touching the girl under her armpits, a gesture he claimed was part of a playful 'tickling game' he often played with children.
However, the incident that led to his arrest was reported by the girl’s parents after she returned home and disclosed that Brown had played a 'tickling game' with her at school, which raised immediate concerns.
The girl’s parents became alarmed when she demonstrated what had happened, prompting them to seek police intervention.
Brown was subsequently arrested and brought before Birmingham Crown Court, where he faced charges of sexual assault on the young girl.
During the trial, it was revealed that Brown had also downloaded indecent images of children, a fact he admitted during the proceedings.
Judge Stephen Eyre QC sentenced Brown to a total of three years and five months in prison.

The girl, under the impression that this was a normal game, later asked her parents about it, leading to her full demonstration of what had transpired.
During a video-recorded interview, the girl described how Brown touched her with his fingers on her bottom, clearly indicating the area of molestation.
She also stated that Brown apologized afterward, saying, 'sorry,' and promised he would never do it again.
She recounted that he simply walked away after the incident, with no further action taken at that time.
Brown’s defense included a claim that his actions were innocent and that he was merely playing a game of tickling children under their armpits, as he had done with others.
However, the prosecution highlighted that Brown’s behavior was inappropriate and that he had shown a lack of understanding of child safety protocols.
Brown admitted to tickling the girl but insisted he did not touch her in any sexual manner, claiming he was trying to understand how the incident might have happened.
In a separate but related case, Brown was also found guilty of downloading indecent images of children, which contributed to his overall sentence.
The court heard that Brown had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children, and he was sentenced to an additional eight months for these offenses, to run consecutively with his prison term for the assault.
