TERRY WILCOX'S SEXUAL ASSAULT SENTENCE REDUCED IN ABERBEEG COURT

In a significant legal development, Terry Wilcox, a mobile DJ from Aberbeeg, has seen his previously imposed indeterminate sentence for a serious sexual assault reduced to a fixed two-year term following an appeal in the Court of Appeal.

Wilcox, aged 51 and residing on Woodland Terrace in Aberbeeg, was originally sentenced at Newport Crown Court in September 2007.

The court had found him guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage boy after a disco event held in May 2007.

The assault involved Wilcox touching the boy inappropriately, an act that was described during the trial as indecent.

The victim, a teenage boy, responded to the assault by punching and head-butting Wilcox, who subsequently broke down in tears during the proceedings, claiming that he “did not know what he was doing.” Despite his remorse, the court had initially sentenced Wilcox to an indefinite term for the purpose of public protection, meaning he would remain incarcerated until the Parole Board determined he was no longer a threat to society.

The severity of the original sentence was influenced by Wilcox’s prior criminal record, which included an incident of indecent assault on a schoolgirl in the late 1980s.

Additionally, Wilcox had a history of breaching court orders that prohibited him from attending children’s events, such as bouncy castle parties, which he was known to organize.

However, the Court of Appeal, presided over by Mr Justice Nicol alongside Lord Justice Maurice Kay and Mr Justice Royce, reviewed the case and decided that the original sentence was excessively harsh given the relatively modest escalation in Wilcox’s offending behavior.

The judges concluded that a two-year fixed-term sentence was more appropriate and just, and accordingly, they replaced the indeterminate sentence with this shorter, more conventional term.
