TERRY TUPPER FROM LEIGH PARK SENTENCED FOR ABUSING YOUNG GIRL IN HAMPSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community, Terry Tupper, a man residing in Leigh Park, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incident took place in Hampshire, specifically at Tupper's residence in Kingsclere Crescent, Havant, where he engaged in abusive behavior towards a 15-year-old girl between June 2007 and June 2008.According to court reports, Tupper targeted a girl described as 'shy and immature,' who became infatuated with him. The judge at Portsmouth Crown Court characterized Tupper as a controlling and manipulative individual who posed a significant risk to children. Despite the gravity of his actions, Tupper refused to accept responsibility, maintaining a stance of denial throughout the proceedings. His persistent denial led to a harrowing trial where the young victim was falsely accused of lying, adding emotional trauma to her ordeal.
The abuse was uncovered after the girl ended her relationship with Tupper. Following their breakup, Tupper continued to harass her through persistent phone calls and handwritten poems, which further highlighted his manipulative behavior. The court heard that during the period of abuse, Tupper engaged in multiple sexual activities with the girl, which resulted in her becoming pregnant. She subsequently chose to undergo an abortion, a decision that was undoubtedly distressing and difficult for her.
Judge Roger Hetherington, presiding over the case, sentenced Tupper to three years in prison. In his remarks, he emphasized the severity of the offenses, stating, 'All of these offences involved a 15-year-old girl who was some 10 years younger than you. As a result of one of these acts of intercourse, she became pregnant and underwent a termination. While on her evidence this was not the first time she had had intercourse, she was generally a shy and immature girl who became infatuated with you. You took advantage of her. You are capable of controlling and manipulative behaviour. You continue to deny these offences so there is no acceptance of responsibility. In terms of risk, the pre-sentence report assesses that you pose a high risk of causing serious harm to female children.'
Following his conviction, Tupper, now living on Wakefords Way in Leigh Park, was disqualified from working with children. Additionally, a five-year order was imposed, prohibiting him from being alone with any girl under the age of 16 in private settings. The authorities hope that these measures will prevent any further harm and protect other potential victims.
Detective Constable Leith Morrison of Waterlooville CID commented on the case, stating, 'This will bring closure to the victim. I think she will be satisfied with the result.' The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable young people from exploitation and abuse.
