TERRENCE WALKER SENTENCED IN PETERBOROUGH AND GRANTHAM FOR SEXUAL FACEBOOK MESSAGES TO UNDERAGE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Grantham and Peterborough, a 56-year-old man named Terrence Walker has been sentenced to prison for his inappropriate online conduct involving a minor. The incident, which took place over two years ago, involved Walker sending sexually explicit messages to a girl who was under the age of 15, through the social media platform Facebook.Walker, a construction manager by profession, was found guilty at Lincoln Crown Court after he admitted to two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that the offences occurred in the Grantham area, where Walker had been in contact with the girl, and that he now resides in Peterborough. The court was informed that Walker’s communication with the girl was part of a troubling pattern of online interaction that spanned a period of time.
During the sentencing, Judge Michael Heath emphasized the gravity of the case, stating that the significant age difference between Walker and the young girl made their online interactions “totally and utterly inappropriate.” The judge pointed out that Walker had engaged in a series of Facebook exchanges with the girl, which included attempts to conceal the nature of their conversations. Evidence presented in court revealed that Walker had tried to hide his misconduct by persuading the girl to delete certain messages, indicating an awareness of the inappropriateness of his actions.
Giles Beddloe, representing Walker, addressed the court during mitigation, asserting that Walker now fully recognizes the wrongfulness of his actions. Beddloe explained that Walker believed his remarks to the girl were meant as jokes and that he had no intention of engaging in any sexual activity. The defense also highlighted Walker’s respectable background, noting that he had worked for the same company for 13 years and was regarded positively in his community. It was also mentioned that Walker has since moved to Nicholas Taylor Gardens in Bretton, Peterborough, and is a father and grandfather.
Despite these character references, the court made it clear that the offences were too serious to warrant a suspended sentence. Judge Heath stated that the nature of the crimes left no alternative but to impose immediate custody, underscoring the importance of protecting minors from such predatory behavior. Walker’s actions have resulted in a significant legal consequence, including a sentence of three and a half years in prison and a lifelong requirement to register as a sex offender, reflecting the severity with which the court views online sexual offenses involving minors.
