TERRENCE PLUMMER OF MANSFIELD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the Mansfield community, 61-year-old taxi driver Terrence Plummer has been sentenced to over three years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl. The incident came to light when a police community support officer happened to come across Plummer and the young girl in the back of a car, just moments after they had engaged in sexual activity.According to reports presented at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, the girl confided to authorities that she had been seeing Plummer daily for a period of seven months. Despite their ongoing relationship, she had kept her secret from everyone else. Prosecutor Dawn Pritchard detailed that their relationship initially involved innocent gestures such as hugging and kissing, but it escalated when Plummer arranged for a hotel room and personally picked her up from her school.
Further evidence revealed that Plummer had purchased clothing and jewelry for the girl and had expressed love for her, actions that compounded the severity of his misconduct. The court heard that Plummer admitted to five counts of sexual activity with a minor, which took place between July and November of the previous year.
Throughout the proceedings, Plummer’s defense lawyer, Stephen Lowne, emphasized that he had led a previously blameless life and expressed remorse for his actions. Despite this, Judge Jeremy Lea sentenced him to three years and three months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his misconduct. The judge stated, “You took advantage of naivety and used her for your own sexual gratification. There are always concerns about long-term psychological damage, that is the evil of what you did.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Plummer was disqualified from working with children and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
