TERRANCE WOOLEY FROM ST HELEN AUCKLAND SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of St Helen Auckland, Durham Crown Court has handed down a significant prison sentence to Terrance Wooley, a 62-year-old man found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving a young girl.

The court heard that Wooley was charged with ten separate counts of sexual abuse, reflecting a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a period of time.

According to court proceedings, the victim, whose identity remains protected, eventually came forward to report the abuse she endured during her youth.

However, she initially chose not to pursue her complaint, opting to remain silent on two separate occasions.

It was only after her third attempt to report the incidents, in 2014, that she felt sufficiently empowered to cooperate fully with the police investigation and participate in the subsequent court process.

Prosecutor Shaun Dodds outlined the case, stating that the charges against Wooley included four counts of indecent assault against a child and six counts of indecency with a child.

Wooley, who resides on Eggleston Walk in St Helen Auckland, denied the allegations, claiming that the incidents did not occur and expressing confusion as to why the victim would make such accusations.

Despite his denial, the evidence presented during the four-day trial was compelling.

After deliberation, the jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all ten charges.

The court's sentencing judge noted that Wooley's conduct had exceeded typical guidelines due to the repeated nature of his offenses.

As a result, the judge imposed a substantial prison term of 14 years, reflecting the severity and persistence of the abuse.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered Wooley to be registered as a sex offender for life.

An indefinite sexual harm prevention order was also issued, restricting his activities and ensuring ongoing monitoring.

Furthermore, a lifelong restraining order was put in place, explicitly prohibiting Wooley from attempting to contact or approach the victim in any capacity, aiming to protect her from further harm and to prevent any potential intimidation or retaliation.

This case underscores the importance of victims coming forward and the justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable, especially in cases involving vulnerable minors.

The community of St Helen Auckland can now be assured that justice has been served in this troubling case of sexual abuse.
