January 2019 Depraved Ellesmere Port paedophile jailed after inciting dad to abuse his own toddler A judge branded a paedophile from Ellesmere Port ‘depraved’ and ‘vile’ as he jailed him for a string of offences including inciting a man to abuse his own toddler as he watched via Skype. Scout master Terence Hamblett, of Seymour Drive, was handed a 12-year prison sentence after admitting a total of 20 charges including possession and distribution of indecent images of children; voyeurism; and inciting or encouraging children to engage in sexual activity. Chester Crown Court heard that 44-year-old Hamblett had even, using an online messaging application, convinced a father to sexually abuse his own three-year-old son and in sentencing him, Judge Steven Everett described his behaviour as ‘depraved and disgusting’. Judge Everett said: “What you did is just so alien to anything that any decent person would even consider to be right. It is hard to comprehend this behaviour. Hamblett had previously pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to the 20 offences which were committed between 2002 and 2016. The court heard at a previous hearing that he had been charged in September 2016, after a lengthy investigation by Cheshire police uncovered a laptop, phones, a hard drive and flash USB drives with a substantial number of indecent images of children on them. Judge Everett and the rest of the court heard how Hamblett had incited boys to perform sex acts online – and even encouraged a father to perform a sex act on his three-year-old son as he watched via Skype. Other charges were also listed, including an incident when Hamblett installed a camera in toilets and filmed three men without their knowledge while they used the bathroom and more than 1.5 million Skype messages being sent, which included the sending of indecent images of children to other paedophiles In total, Hamblett pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children; one of possessing indecent images; two of distributing indecent images; one count of possessing extreme pornographic material and one of voyeurism. He also admitted four counts related to encouraging or assisting with the commission of a child sex offence; and eight related to attempting to cause children to engage in sexual activity. In total he admitted making 233 images of Category A – the most serious kind, 245 of Category B and 444 of category C, as well as admitting a charge of possessing 922 indecent images between September 2002 and September 2016. Prosecutor Simon Duncan said that Hamblett posed as a sixteen-year-old boy and using Skype, would convince boys aged between 13 and 15 to masturbate on camera. Using the persona of a sixteen-year-old he also struck up conversations with a father who he convinced to sexually abuse his own three-year-old son. The voyeurism charge Hamblett faced related to a camera he placed in a toilet at the business which he owned in Stoke on Trent, which he used to take video of people going to the toilet. In jailing Hamblett, Judge Steven Everett said: “It was utterly vile what you did, any right thinking person would be sick at the thought of some of the material that you downloaded off the internet and sick at the thought of your actions. “The sentence must reflect this terrible catalogue of offending over many years and must send out a message to others who are tempted like you, in particular, to use the internet as what is effectively a sexual weapon.” In addition to his jail term, Hamblett must sign the sex offenders register for life. Terence Hamblett, of Seymour Drive in Ellesmere Port, appeared before a judge at Chester Crown Court on Friday (December 14). The 44-year-old paedophile had previously pleaded guilty to the 20 counts he faced, which included inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, possession of more than 900 indecent images of children and voyeurism. Judge Everett and the rest of the court heard how Hamblett had incited boys to perform sex acts online – and even encouraged a father to perform a sex act on his three-year-old son as he watched via Skype. Possession of 922 indecent images of children between September 1, 2002 and September 2016 – a period of 12 years – was the fourth count Hamblett had earlier pleaded guilty to. Four of the counts the paedophile was charged for related to incidents via the online webcam site Skype, through which Hamblett encouraged a father to perform sex acts on his three-year-old son. Between August 13, 2018 and November 22, 2010 the two men messaged sexually explicit content to one another. Hamblett, who has no previous convictions, had referred to himself in messages with other people as a 16-year-old. In 2010 while masking his real age by claiming he had a broken camera, Hamblett presented himself as Bennyboy4900 and told the father he was an ‘old fart’ when the man revealed he was 31-years-old. During the exchanges Hamblett encouraged the father to perform sex acts on his son while he watched online. In other messages on Skype with young boys, the Ellesmere Port man incited them to perform sex acts while he watched. Throughout these conversations Hamblett sent indecent images of children. A lengthy investigation by Cheshire police led to the arrest and charging of Hamblett, where they discovered a laptop, phones, a hard drive and flash USB drives with a substantial number of indecent images of children on them. Initially arrested on September 8, 2016, Hamblett said he was not attracted to children. Hamblett will appear in Chester Crown Court on Thursday, January 10, for sentence. While previously released on unconditional bail, Judge Everett promptly explained that would not be happening again, with Hamblett awaiting his sentence in custody. November 2018 Ellesmere Port man facing lengthy jail term after inciting underage boys to engage in sex acts online AN Ellesmere Port man had been told he will face “a lengthy custodial sentence” after he admitted inciting eight underage boys to engage in sexual activity online. Terence Hamblett, 43, of Seymour Drive, also made and owned hundreds of indecent images of children, Chester Crown Court heard on Monday, November 12. The 20 charges Hamblett pleaded guilty to also included possession of extreme pornography, voyeurism and encouraging a man via Skype to arrange for their son to engage in a sex act. Judge Patrick Thompson adjourned the case until next month for a pre-sentence report but warned Hamblett, a former licensee of the Royal Oak Hotel in Heath Road South, Runcorn, to expect a lengthy custodial sentence. All the charges dated between September 1, 2002 and September 9, 2016 and all took place in Ellesmere Port. Eight of the charges which Hamblett pleaded guilty to, ranging between 2011 and 2016, involved inciting boys aged between 13 and 15 to engage in a sex act online. Hamblett pleaded guilty to making 233 indecent photos of a child which were ‘category A’ – the most severe; 245 indecent images of children at category B and 444 indecent images of a child at category C. He admitted possessing 922 indecent photos of a child and distributing indecent photos of a child – 566 at category A and 39 at category B He admitted having in his possession on September 8, 2016, 72 extreme pornographic images of people performing sex acts with animals. He also pleaded guilty to an act of voyeurism which took place between January 1, 2013 and April 21, 2014. Defending, James Coutts made an application for a pre-sentence report, adding it was inevitable there would be a custodial sentence and Hamblett had no previous convictions. Hamblett had been on unconditional bail prior to Monday’s court appearance, but Judge Thompson said: “I find it astonishing, in fact I find it unacceptable, that the defendant is currently on unconditional bail. “When people are on bail they can be on computers for anything.” Prosecuting, Simon Duncan said he was new to the case but added: “I apologise that this issue was not addressed.” Hamblett was placed on conditional bail, subject to a lengthy number of conditions, including that he must not use a computer or device capable of storing images without police permission, must have monitoring software installed on any computer he wants to use, and must not be in the same household or make any contact with children aged 18 without the permission of social services or their parental guardian. He must also now sign the sex offenders’ register.
