ELLESMERE PORT PAEDOPHILE TERENCE HAMBLETT SENTENCED FOR VILE ONLINE SEX OFFENCES IN CHESTER

In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Ellesmere Port, Terence Hamblett, a man known for his disturbing online activities, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after admitting to a series of heinous offences related to child exploitation and abuse.

The court heard that Hamblett, aged 44 and residing on Seymour Drive, engaged in a prolonged pattern of criminal behavior spanning over a decade, from 2002 to 2016.

Judge Steven Everett of Chester Crown Court described Hamblett as 'depraved' and 'vile' during the sentencing, emphasizing the severity and repulsiveness of his actions.

The court was informed that Hamblett had pleaded guilty to a total of 20 charges, which included possession and distribution of indecent images of children, voyeurism, and inciting or encouraging children to engage in sexual activities.

The judge highlighted that Hamblett's conduct was not only morally reprehensible but also a grave threat to the safety and well-being of children.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Hamblett had used online messaging platforms to manipulate and coerce young boys into performing sexual acts on camera.

He had posed as a 16-year-old boy, convincing boys aged between 13 and 15 to masturbate on camera, and had also engaged in conversations with a father, persuading him to sexually abuse his own three-year-old son while Hamblett watched via Skype.

This disturbing manipulation was part of a broader pattern of online grooming and exploitation.

The court also learned that Hamblett had installed a hidden camera in toilets at his business premises in Stoke-on-Trent, which he used to secretly film men while they used the bathroom.

Additionally, he was found to have sent over 1.5 million messages on Skype, many containing indecent images of children, which he shared with other paedophiles.

The investigation uncovered a significant amount of illegal material, including thousands of indecent images categorized into different levels of severity, with Hamblett possessing and distributing hundreds of such images.

Prosecutor Simon Duncan detailed that Hamblett had created a disturbing online persona, using the alias 'Bennyboy4900' to communicate with other offenders and to encourage sexual acts involving children.

The evidence showed that he had made, possessed, and shared a total of 233 Category A images—the most serious classification—along with hundreds of other images across categories B and C.

Hamblett also admitted to possessing over 900 indecent images of children, with the earliest material dating back to September 2002.

Throughout the proceedings, Hamblett maintained that he was not attracted to children, but the court found his actions to be utterly vile and indicative of a deep-seated pattern of criminal behavior.

Judge Everett condemned his conduct, stating, 'It was utterly vile what you did, and any right-thinking person would be sick at the thought of some of the material that you downloaded off the internet and sick at your actions.' The judge further emphasized that the sentence was meant to reflect the gravity of his offenses and to serve as a warning to others who might misuse the internet for similar purposes.

In addition to his prison sentence, Hamblett will be required to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

The case has sent a stark message about the dangers of online child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from predators like Hamblett, whose actions have left a lasting scar on the community of Ellesmere Port.
