TERANCE LOBB JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN KIDDERMINSTER AND WORCESTER

In April 2004, a disturbing case unfolded at Worcester Crown Court involving Terance Lobb, a resident of Whittall Drive East, Birchen Coppice, Kidderminster. Terance Lobb faced multiple charges, including two counts of raping a boy and one count of indecent assault. However, after a lengthy trial that saw the jury deliberating for over ten hours, Lobb was acquitted of the rape charges concerning a second boy. The jury found him guilty only of indecently assaulting a boy aged between six and eight years old in a private residence. The verdict was reached with a 10-2 majority.

The prosecution, led by Mark Wall, alleged that the offences occurred between 1997 and 2002. Lobb, who was married and had no prior criminal record, maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, claiming that the boys were lying about the incidents. Despite his denial, the court's decision reflected the evidence presented, which included the victim’s emotional testimony. The young boy described suffering from nightmares and experiencing distress while giving evidence in court, highlighting the traumatic impact of the abuse.

Judge David McEvoy QC, addressing the jury, discharged them from returning verdicts on two additional rape charges involving the second boy. He granted the prosecution a week to decide whether to pursue a retrial on those charges, indicating the case's complexity and the serious nature of the allegations.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge McEvoy emphasized the gravity of the crime, ordering Lobb to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Furthermore, he prohibited Lobb from working with children under the age of 18, citing concerns about potential risks. The judge also expressed concern about the psychological toll on the victims, noting that Lobb's actions had forced a vulnerable child to relive his traumatic experiences through the court proceedings.

Richard Carron, Lobb’s defense lawyer, expressed regret over the case, stating, “Mr Lobb has lost his good name in the most serious circumstances. A case like this will have a long-term effect after the prison sentence has been served.” Carron also pointed out that the victims were not from Lobb’s family, but social services would now need to evaluate whether Lobb posed a risk to his own children, given the allegations.
