April 2012 Shocking level of child abuse on Teesside last year MORE than 300 children were victims of sex crimes on Teesside last year – including 38 aged just five and under.

NSPCC figures show that 307 children on Teesside were victims of sex crimes, including rape, incest and abuse of children through prostitution and pornography.

Of those, 115 had not yet reached secondary school age.

Nationally, the child protection charity report reveals that more than 400 sexual assaults against children were reported to police every week last year, but fewer than one in 10 resulted in a conviction.
