RAPIST WHO ATTACKED WOMAN IN PARK JAILED FOR NEARLY 10 YEARS
A man who assaulted a woman in a Hertfordshire park has received a nearly ten-year prison sentence. The victim, a sex worker who is legally anonymized, was approached by Tapiwanashe Sibanda near a street close to his residence in Hatfield during August 2020.
He subsequently led her to an isolated part of Ellenbrook Park, where he subjected her to rape while armed with a hidden weapon.
Following the assault, he took her mobile phone.
The woman escaped the scene and was assisted by a passerby who contacted law enforcement.
Sibanda, aged 27, was located and arrested; during questioning, he claimed the interaction was consensual.
Formerly residing on Richards Street in Hatfield, Sibanda was convicted at trial in November of charges including rape, robbery, and multiple breaches of a sexual risk order.
On June 5, at St Albans Crown Court, he was sentenced to nearly ten years in prison, with the judge indicating he presents a danger of causing serious harm to women.
