Dennis Moore, now 71, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for his role in these crimes, which took place during the late 1980s.
His criminal activities did not end there; he was also convicted of raping and abusing a second schoolgirl in the late 1990s.
The court heard that Moore’s offending was particularly egregious, involving at least 13 separate occasions of rape and indecent assault.

Judge Timothy Spencer QC remarked that the statements demonstrated “the levels of wickedness you stooped to which are difficult for any right-thinking person to stomach.” Addressing the defendants directly, the judge stated, “You are sister and brother.
You should examine your consciences and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to do so over the years following this sentencing hearing.” He clarified that Moore was convicted as the principal offender, with Truscott acting as an active accomplice in the rape of one of the victims.
The judge described the repeated rapes of the girl, who was no more than 13, as occurring almost weekly, with Truscott’s active encouragement and participation.
The judge condemned their actions as “sinking to the depths of perversion and depravation,” emphasizing that the victims were not objects for their gratification.
“Susan Truscott, you were procuring her as a sexual object,” he said, suggesting her gratification was not merely voyeuristic but involved active participation.

The court acknowledged her resilience in surviving such trauma and praised her for her strength in providing a personal impact statement.
The second victim, also around 12 or 13 years old, was targeted after her mother was frequently hospitalized, leaving her vulnerable and seeking solace outside shops.
Moore exploited her trust, picking her up and turning her into his next victim.
She was coerced into performing sex acts in exchange for cigarettes and was also raped.
Judge Spencer expressed deep concern over Moore’s lack of insight into the damage caused, noting the severe and lasting psychological harm inflicted on both victims.
The first victim was described as “helpless,” suffering from the trauma inflicted by both defendants.
In terms of legal findings, Moore was convicted of two counts of rape, involving at least 13 occasions, along with other serious sex offences and an indecent assault related to the first victim.
Truscott was found guilty of aiding, abetting, counseling, and procuring Moore to commit these offences.
Regarding the second victim, Moore alone was convicted of two counts of indecency with a child, one of indecent assault, and two rapes, spanning from 1997 to 1999.
Both defendants denied the allegations, claiming that the incidents never occurred, except for one instance where Moore admitted to indecently assaulting the second girl, asserting she was over 14 at the time.
Judge Spencer highlighted the ill health of both individuals, with particular concern for Truscott’s condition, and emphasized the gravity of their crimes, which have left indelible scars on the victims’ lives.
