LEICESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR HIS MOTHER'S MURDER
A man convicted of murdering his 76-year-old mother and attempting to conceal her body in the garden has been sentenced to a minimum of 31 years behind bars.On May 13, Bhajan Kaur was found with severe head and facial injuries, and a sizable hole was observed in the garden of her Leicester home on Bolsover Street.
According to Leicestershire Police, Sundeep Singh believed he was entitled to the family property after his late father, which caused disagreements.
Prior to the incident, Singh had been reported to authorities by his mother and was detained on suspicion of controlling and coercive conduct.
He was released on bail and allowed into the residence on the day Mrs.
Kaur was killed.
Evidence indicated Singh bought a heavy-duty trolley and spade from a nearby shop.
When relatives couldn't contact Mrs.
Kaur, they visited her home and found her body.
Police officers spotted Singh leaving the scene shortly after the incident.
During his detention, he initially denied knowing his mother’s fate and claimed to be someone else.
Singh was found guilty of murder at Leicester Crown Court and received a life sentence.
Due to prior police interactions with both the victim and the suspect, the case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which concluded that four officers involved had acted appropriately, though two received advisory feedback for not updating investigation logs.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski stated that Singh had planned to bury Bhajan Kaur’s body but was interrupted before completing this, noting that the house had been cleaned and disinfected, suggesting post-mortem preparations.
The family remains deeply affected by their loss.
