Rayleigh Rapist
In a case that has shocked the local community of Rayleigh, Essex, Stuart Wiseman, aged 46 and of no fixed address, has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of multiple violent crimes against a vulnerable woman. The incidents took place over a harrowing two-day period, during which Wiseman subjected his victim to a series of brutal assaults, including stabbing her in the leg and raping her multiple times.

The court proceedings unfolded at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday, June 13. Wiseman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the rape charge, with an additional eight years on an extended licence, reflecting the gravity of his crimes. In addition to the primary sentence, he received two-year terms for three counts of actual bodily harm (ABH) and an 18-month sentence for breaching a restraining order. These sentences are to run concurrently, emphasizing the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions.

The timeline of the assaults stretches from Wednesday, February 20, to Wednesday, February 27. During this period, the victim was unable to recall specific days on which the attacks occurred, but she confirmed that the assaults happened over a span of two days. Her ordeal included being raped by Wiseman and being stabbed in her leg, injuries that left her physically and emotionally scarred.

Following a thorough investigation, Essex Police officers tracked down Wiseman and apprehended him near Chelmsford. He was pulled over on the A130, a major road in the area, and taken into custody. During questioning, Wiseman admitted to the charges of rape, ABH, and breaching a restraining order, which had been previously issued to protect the victim. The police investigation also uncovered additional charges, including theft, criminal damage, and further breaches of the restraining order, which will remain on file for future reference.

As part of his sentencing, Wiseman was subjected to lifelong notification requirements, meaning he will be monitored indefinitely due to the severity of his crimes. Furthermore, the court imposed an indefinite restraining order, explicitly prohibiting him from making any contact with the victim to ensure her safety and prevent further harm. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect victims and hold offenders accountable for their violent actions in the Essex area.
