STUART FLOWERDAY FROM LANCASTER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEEN BOY
In a case that has shocked the Lancaster community, Stuart Flowerday, aged 25, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy. The incident came to light after Flowerday, who was on licence at the time, engaged in a series of inappropriate communications and encounters with the 15-year-old in Lancaster.Flowerday’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for inciting boys to engage in sexual activity, which resulted in a prison sentence. He was released from custody on May 25th, 2016, and was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order stemming from a prior conviction at Woolwich on June 18th, 2015. This order explicitly prohibited him from actively seeking or being in the company of any child under 16, as well as communicating with or inviting any child under that age to his premises.
Despite these restrictions, Flowerday violated the terms of his order when he contacted the teenage boy via a gay dating app last year. The two exchanged messages over a period of time, during which they arranged to meet in Lancaster on two separate occasions. During these meetings, they engaged in sexual activity. The court heard that initially, the boy claimed to be 16, but when he later disclosed his true age, Flowerday responded indifferently, stating, “I’m not bothered.”
The offences were uncovered when the boy’s stepfather grounded him and confiscated his mobile phone. A review of the messages revealed that Flowerday had described himself as a pervert and a sex offender. These incriminating communications led to Flowerday’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
During the trial at Preston Crown Court, Flowerday pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with a child and a charge of meeting a child following sexual grooming. Judge Dodd, presiding over the case, highlighted the severity of Flowerday’s actions, noting the defendant’s attempts to evade police detection by instructing the boy to remain silent if questioned. The judge also pointed out that Flowerday had asked for extra time to retrieve clothing, claiming he was going to prison, which further demonstrated his attempt to conceal his involvement.
When arrested, Flowerday was identified by the boy during an identity parade. The court was informed that at the time of the offences, Flowerday was on licence and under the restrictions of his previous sexual harm prevention order. His breach of these conditions was a significant aggravating factor in his sentencing.
Judge Dodd sentenced Flowerday to 52 months in prison, with an additional 26 months on extended licence to mitigate the risk he poses to the public. The sentence reflects the gravity of his violations and the danger he represents, especially considering his history and the breach of court orders designed to protect minors from harm. Flowerday is currently residing on Cleveleys Avenue, Lancaster, where he awaits the conclusion of his sentence and the extended supervision period.
