STUART CAIRNS, GLASGOW SEX OFFENDER, SENTENCED FOR ABUSE AND RAPE IN GLASGOW
A man named Stuart Cairns has been found guilty of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl and multiple women in Glasgow.The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Cairns, aged 68, who targeted a schoolgirl he knew from his time operating a stall at Paddy’s Market in Glasgow.
The abuse against the girl began when she was just 11 years old, with the first incident taking place in 2016 at a flat located in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.
During this incident, Cairns took advantage of the girl while they were playing on a games console, exploiting her trust and vulnerability.
Despite his efforts to silence her through monetary means, Cairns attempted to bribe the girl with a mere £1 to keep quiet about the abuse.
The girl, demonstrating remarkable courage, reported the incident to the police in March 2020.
An investigation was launched, uncovering further disturbing details about Cairns’s criminal history.
It was revealed that between 1994 and 1998, Cairns had also raped two women in separate incidents, adding to the gravity of his criminal record.
Stuart Cairns appeared before the High Court in Glasgow to face justice.
It was noted that he had previously served an eight-year prison sentence for sex offenses involving a woman and a girl, although these victims were not connected to the current case.
Cairns pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sexually assaulting the young girl between 2016 and 2018, and raping the two women in separate incidents.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution detailed how Cairns sat beside the girl while they played PlayStation.
When she attempted to push him away, he responded by offering her money, specifically a £1 note, in an attempt to buy her silence.
In sentencing, the judge imposed an additional seven and a half years in prison on top of Cairns’s previous sentence, bringing his total incarceration period to approximately ten years.
The court condemned the crimes as utterly despicable, emphasizing the profound harm inflicted upon the victims.
The judge stated, “These are despicable crimes.
I hope you realise the harm that you have caused to various women.” Currently, Cairns is serving his sentence at HMP Glenochil, and the court made it clear that any possibility of early release remains highly unlikely.
The overall sentence was reduced from what could have been longer, owing to Cairns’s guilty pleas, but the severity of his crimes and the impact on the victims remain a stark reminder of the gravity of his offenses.
