STEWART TAYLOR JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN PAISLEY

In October 2017, Stewart Taylor, a man from Paisley, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

The case revealed disturbing details about his actions, which spanned over three years and involved a collection of approximately 500 illicit images depicting young victims being sexually abused.

Taylor, a married man and father, worked as a nurse at a care home.

His involvement in this heinous activity came to light after authorities uncovered his extensive collection of illegal material stored at his residence in Castle Gardens, Paisley.

The images he downloaded and shared included photographs of girls and boys aged between five and 14, all subjected to sexual abuse.

During the investigation, Taylor claimed that the children in the images appeared to be willing participants, a statement that was met with strong condemnation from the court.

Following his arrest, Taylor was compelled to resign from his position at the care home, as his deviant interests were exposed.

He admitted to downloading the images between September 5, 2013, and September 22, 2016, and also confessed to sharing these illegal images online from the same period up until March 10 of the following year.

His actions were considered serious violations under the law, specifically under Section 52 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

During a pre-trial hearing, Taylor pleaded guilty to the charges, which led to a delay in sentencing so that social workers and specialists could assess his mental state and potential for rehabilitation.

Despite hopes for a non-custodial sentence, Taylor appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court last week, where Sheriff Colin Pettigrew delivered a stern judgment.

Sheriff Pettigrew condemned Taylor for the suffering inflicted upon the children depicted in the images, emphasizing the pain, fear, and discomfort they endured.

He was particularly critical of Taylor’s assertion that some children might have been willing participants, describing such claims as entirely false.

The sheriff clarified that many of the images involved coercion and serious abuse, not consent, and that Taylor bore responsibility for fueling demand for such material.

In his sentencing remarks, Sheriff Pettigrew highlighted the vulnerability and young age of the victims, some as young as four or five years old.

He pointed out that Taylor committed these acts while his wife was at work and his children were at school, with devices protected by passwords, indicating a calculated effort to conceal his activities.

Ultimately, the sheriff concluded that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate punishment for Taylor’s crimes, resulting in a 27-month jail term and a 10-year period on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
