Canterbury Sexual Abuser
In a recent court hearing at Canterbury Crown Court, Stewart Mackay, a 43-year-old man with a troubling criminal history, was handed a sentence of 10 months in prison after being found guilty of a sexual assault that took place within his own community. The incident involved Mackay engaging in an unsettling act where he unexpectedly licked the toes of a 17-year-old girl while she was attempting to sleep at her residence in Canterbury. This distressing event left the young victim deeply traumatized and emotionally scarred.

According to court reports, the victim managed to escape the situation by rushing to the bathroom and locking Mackay outside her room, which prevented further harm. Despite her quick thinking, she described feeling constantly on edge and struggling with the emotional aftermath of the assault. Her testimony was filled with pain and a desire to move forward, yet she expressed ongoing issues with trust and anxiety, stating, “I’m really trying to move on with my life but I have issues over trust - I constantly feel on edge in case I see him again. I hope this stops soon as I just want to get on with my life.”

During the proceedings, Judge Mark Weekes described the nature of the attack, emphasizing that it occurred after Mackay had consumed alcohol that evening. The judge stated, “On the evening in question, as a consequence of consuming alcohol, at a point of that evening you took her toes into your mouth, that was a motion that caused her significant distress at the time.” Mackay’s criminal record is extensive, with 19 convictions spanning 32 separate offences, highlighting a pattern of problematic behavior. He admitted to the sexual assault during court proceedings and was also ordered to adhere to a 10-year restraining order, along with notification requirements that will keep him under supervision for an extended period.

In court, Mackay was observed waving to a friend before leaving the dock, appearing to show remorse and shame for his actions. His legal representative explained that Mackay does not target women because of their age but due to a specific interest in women’s feet, which is considered a niche fetish. The lawyer also noted that Mackay is seeking help for alcohol abuse, which contributed to his conduct during the incident. The victim, visibly distressed and emotional, expressed her hope to recover and move past the trauma, emphasizing her desire for peace and normalcy in her life.

The court heard that the assault took place as the girl was trying to sleep, and her quick action in locking Mackay outside the bathroom prevented further harm. As part of his sentencing, Mackay will be subject to a lengthy period of notification and restraining orders, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the court’s commitment to protecting the community from future incidents.
