FIFE MAN STEVEN WILKIE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMAGES IN DUNFERMLINE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Fife, Steven Wilkie, a 57-year-old resident of Caledonia Court in Rosyth, was formally sentenced for serious offences related to indecent images of children.The proceedings took place at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, where Wilkie appeared to face the consequences of his actions.
Wilkie had previously admitted to a series of charges that spanned over a decade.
Specifically, he confessed to possessing indecent images of children from May 15, 2006, through to March 7, 2017.
Additionally, he acknowledged that during the period from December 1, 2003, to March 7, 2017, he actively downloaded indecent photographs of minors, further implicating him in the distribution and possession of illegal material.
During the court hearing, Wilkie’s defense solicitor, Russel McPhate, provided context for his client’s long-standing issues.
He explained that Wilkie had a history of depression that had persisted over many years.
According to McPhate, Wilkie had turned to alcohol and pornography as coping mechanisms, which over time became increasingly extreme and problematic.
The solicitor also noted that Wilkie appeared somewhat relieved when law enforcement authorities finally apprehended him, suggesting a complex emotional response to the situation.
In sentencing, Sheriff Craig McSherry ordered Wilkie to complete a community payback order, which includes 12 months of supervision and 200 hours of unpaid work.
Furthermore, Wilkie was placed on the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his criminal conduct.
