DUNFERMLINE PAEDOPHILE TRIED TO CONTACT CHILDREN DESPITE 2 PREVIOUS STINGS!
In a concerning development, Steven Reid, a man based in Dunfermline but originally from Glasgow, has been apprehended once more by Scotland's Child Protection Team. This marks his second encounter with law enforcement regarding allegations related to child safety.
Reid, now 62, is currently a prisoner at Perth and has a history of previous sexual convictions, including attempting to meet a child at Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow in 2017, an incident confronted by paedophile hunters.
His recent arrest is linked to a series of crimes committed at Fernie Place, Dunfermline, where he attempted to contact minors as young as 10 years old.
During court proceedings at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Reid, who used a crutch to walk, admitted to attempting to contact children through sexual messages between April and June last year and May 2023.
He attempted communication with individuals he believed were under 16, using social media platforms to send sexual messages and images, often to decoys or undercover officers.
Between May 3 and June 10 last year, he sent sexual messages to someone he believed was a girl under 16, and in May and June 2023, he sent sexual images and messages to what he thought were teenage girls.
He also breached bail conditions banning contact with minors.
Reid's contacts included a decoy set by vigilantes, with over 1000 Facebook messages exchanged, containing explicit content.
He was confronted at work by paedophile hunters, leading to his arrest in May 2023, and subsequent searches recovered messages from his phone.
His defense claimed remorse and blamed family bereavements for his actions, but the sheriff described his offending as 'seemingly incorrigible' and sentenced him to 30 months imprisonment, backdated to May 15, with an indefinite sex offenders register order.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over his repeated offending and the challenges law enforcement faces in monitoring offenders like Reid.
