STEVEN MCMURRAY SHOCKS SWANSEA WITH CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES DISCOVERY

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through Swansea, a man identified as Steven McMurray was found to possess an extensive collection of child sexual abuse images, including videos depicting the rape and sexual exploitation of children as young as five or six years old.

The case came to light in April 2022 when authorities uncovered the disturbing material during a police operation.

According to court reports, McMurray, who is also known by the alias Perfect Lee Amazing, had accumulated hundreds of illicit images and videos.

These materials included graphic content involving minors, with some of the images stored on his devices showing children being subjected to sexual acts.

The police investigation revealed that McMurray had initially shown interest in teenagers but claimed that he 'accidentally' downloaded the images of much younger children.

This explanation was presented during police interviews, where he admitted to being intoxicated at the time of viewing the material.

The arrest took place in January 2021, following a warrant executed at his residence on Vivian Road in the Sketty area of Swansea.

During the search, officers seized two mobile phones, one of which contained indecent images linked to the Telegram messaging platform.

Further investigation uncovered an online storage account belonging to McMurray, which held an additional 250 indecent images, including 171 Category A videos.

These videos depicted children as young as five or six being raped, highlighting the severity of the material he possessed.

Authorities also discovered images involving bestiality, where humans engaged in sexual acts with animals, along with approximately 550 other prohibited images showing children in sexual poses or being abused.

Despite the extensive collection, police found no evidence suggesting that McMurray had conducted internet searches related to the indecent material.

Instead, it appeared he accessed the content through social media platforms or messaging services, which facilitated his possession of such material.

During police interviews, McMurray, aged 34, admitted to being under the influence of alcohol when he began viewing the images.

He stated that his initial interest was in teenagers, but he 'accidentally' downloaded images of younger children, which he described as a mistake.

McMurray, a warehouse worker residing on Vivian Road in Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C, possession of prohibited images, and possession of extreme pornography.

His criminal history is extensive, with 10 prior convictions spanning 23 offences such as robbery, assault causing actual bodily harm, battery, criminal damage, and breaching a restraining order.

During the sentencing hearing, Recorder Carl Harrison emphasized the gravity of McMurray's offenses, stating that they crossed the custody threshold due to their seriousness.

After careful consideration, the judge expressed that there was only a 'just about persuaded' prospect of rehabilitation for the defendant, given the nature of his crimes.

As a result, McMurray was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to undertake a rehabilitation program, including the Horizon sex offenders course, complete 60 hours of unpaid work, and pay £720 in prosecution costs.

Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order to restrict his internet use and will remain on the sex offenders register for the next decade, reflecting the ongoing concern over his potential risk to the community.
