SUNDERLAND NURSE STEVEN GREEN CAUGHT IN POLICE STING TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sunderland, a mental health nurse named Steven Green has been sentenced to prison after attempting to engage in a sexual encounter with a minor he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.The incident unfolded in February when Green, who was employed within a mental health crisis team, initiated explicit online conversations with what he thought was a young girl.
Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was an undercover police officer operating in internet chatrooms designed to catch predators.
Green, aged 52 and residing on Roker Terrace in Sunderland, was caught in a carefully orchestrated police operation aimed at tackling the growing problem of online predatory behavior.
The police had set up a specialized unit to monitor and apprehend adults seeking illegal contact with minors over the internet.
During the course of the investigation, Green engaged in explicit discussions, encouraging the supposed girl to masturbate and expressing a desire to meet her in person for sexual activity, including penetrative intercourse.
Following his arrest, Green faced serious consequences.
His personal life was shattered as he lost his marriage, his home, and his job within the mental health sector.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of his misconduct, which was judged to be a clear case of grooming and incitement to sexual activity involving a minor.
At Newcastle Crown Court, Mr.
Recorder Jamie Hill sentenced Green to 12 months in prison.
Additionally, Green was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
The judge emphasized the gravity of Green’s actions, stating, “In February this year, you chose to go online and enter into conversation with someone you believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
During that conversation, you encouraged her to masturbate and gave her instructions on that.
Then, you made it clear you wanted to meet her with a view to having penetrative sexual intercourse.” The judge acknowledged that Green was under significant stress from his work and personal life but stressed that these factors did not justify or mitigate his criminal behavior.
“None of that, in my judgment, can adequately excuse your intention or the fact that you turned, on that day in February, into a would-be predator,” he said.
The court made it clear that Green’s words and actions left no room for doubt about his intentions, which were clearly predatory and illegal.
Green’s misconduct was uncovered by a specialist police unit established specifically to combat the rise of online predatory behavior.
The court highlighted the importance of such operations in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation.
