STEVEN FERGUSSON AND HIS HORRIFIC SEXUAL OFFENCES IN RENFREWSHIRE
A man responsible for a series of heinous sexual crimes spanning over two decades has been convicted and sentenced to prison.Steven Fergusson, aged 39, was found guilty of sexually abusing nine different women in various locations across Renfrewshire from 1995 through 2019.
The lengthy and disturbing trial concluded at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday, January 23, with Fergusson being sentenced to a seven-year term behind bars.
His crimes, which involved multiple victims over a period of 24 years, have left a lasting impact on the individuals and the community.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark McLennan publicly addressed the media following his conviction, affirming the seriousness of Fergusson’s actions.
He expressed approval of the court's decision and commended the women who came forward with their accounts, noting their courage in exposing the offender.
“We welcome the conviction of Steven Fergusson.
He is clearly a dangerous individual and it is due to the courage of the women involved in this case that he will now face the consequences of his abhorrent behaviour,” McLennan said.
The detective chief inspector also took the opportunity to appeal to the wider community.
He emphasized that anyone experiencing or who has experienced any form of abuse or harm should not hesitate to report it, assuring the public that all reports are taken seriously.
“I would like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who has or is being subjected to any form of abuse or harm to get in touch with the police and report it.
We treat all reports seriously and with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity, no matter when the offence took place.
Time is no barrier to justice, as this case demonstrates.” This case underscores the importance of vigilance and support for victims of sexual offenses and stands as a reminder that justice can be pursued regardless of how long ago the crimes occurred.
