STEVEN ELLIS BANNED FROM ROMFORD TOWN CENTRE IN LONDON FOR SHOPLIFTING AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
A well-known repeat offender has been officially prohibited from entering Romford town centre, a busy commercial hub located within the London borough of Havering.Steven Ellis, a 43-year-old resident of Dunton Road in Romford, was served with a three-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) during a court session held at North East London Magistrates' Court on June 27.
According to police reports, the restrictions imposed on Ellis are directly related to his involvement in shoplifting incidents at various retail outlets within the town centre.
The order explicitly forbids him from accessing the area within the Romford ring road, which encompasses key locations such as the Mercury Mall shopping centre, a popular destination for shoppers and visitors alike.
In addition to the ban from the town centre, Ellis is also prohibited from engaging in begging activities during the same three-year period.
The order stipulates that he must refrain from any conduct that could be classified as anti-social behaviour, including actions that cause harassment, alarm, or distress to members of the public.
The police and court authorities have emphasized that Ellis's behaviour has been a source of nuisance and annoyance to residents and visitors in Havering.
Furthermore, Ellis received a suspended prison sentence for his shoplifting offences.
This means that if he breaches the terms of the CBO or commits any other offence during the period of the order, he could face immediate imprisonment.
The court's decision reflects a serious stance against persistent criminal activity and anti-social conduct in the area.
Sgt Alex Norrington, a representative of the Safer Neighbourhoods Police Team, described Ellis as
