STEVEN DUNN AND HIS RECKLESS BEHAVIOR IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
Steven Dunn, a 45-year-old man residing in Stoke-on-Trent, found himself at the center of a series of violent and disturbing incidents after a routine police encounter. The events unfolded on October 8, when Dunn was located in the Hanley area and subsequently arrested for neglecting his legal obligations under the Sex Offenders' Register.
The police had been actively searching for Dunn because he had failed to inform authorities of any change of address, which is a requirement for all registered sex offenders.
The failure to notify was considered a serious breach, prompting officers to track him down.
When police officers finally located him around 1 pm, Dunn’s behavior quickly escalated into aggression.
He took out a collapsible walking stick, which he then used to threaten the officers, raising it over his head and lunging forward in a menacing manner.
According to prosecutor Ian Ball, Dunn attempted to flee but was quickly restrained by law enforcement officers.
During the restraint, Dunn became visibly tearful but continued to exhibit hostility.
In an effort to assist him with compliance, an officer placed a hand on his shoulder, but this did not de-escalate the situation.
Instead, Dunn responded by biting the officer on the hand.
Though the officer was protected by a thick glove, the attack was nonetheless alarming.
Following this, Dunn spat at the officer and the surrounding ground, further demonstrating his combative state.
The situation deteriorated further when Dunn banged his head against the side of a police vehicle.
In a shocking display of behavior, he then urinated and defecated within his police cell.
Not stopping there, Dunn smeared feces onto the cell walls, causing considerable clean-up efforts.
The police had to spend additional resources to clean the vehicle and the cell, costing £100 for the vehicle and £65 for the police cell sanitation.
It was later revealed that Dunn had been under the influence of monkey dust earlier that day, a synthetic drug known for inducing paranoia and violent behavior.
Dunn’s criminal record is extensive; he has accumulated 27 previous convictions across 68 offenses.
Despite being on the Sex Offenders' Register since his 2019 conviction for sexual assault—a legal obligation that requires him to notify authorities of any change of address—he had become homeless.
This led to his being found in Stoke-on-Trent, specifically in Hanley, which triggered the chain of events.
The court heard all these details before sentencing Dunn.
Ultimately, Steven Dunn was sentenced to 65 weeks in prison for his misconduct.
His actions, marked by violence and vandalism, have highlighted the dangers of substance abuse and non-compliance with legal obligations among repeat offenders in Stoke-on-Trent.
