May 2013 Erith Facebook paedophile jailed A 35-year-old man from Erith has been sentenced to two years and five months in jail today after pleading guilty to grooming a 14-year-old girl on Facebook. Steven Clive was also given a five-year sex offenders prevention order at Woolwich Crown Court, and he will spend 10 years on the sex offenders register. He pleaded guilty to one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, which carried a 12-month sentence, and two counts of sexual activity with a child, with two years and five month sentences passed for both offences, at the Old Bailey on March 18. The sentences will run concurrently. He was arrested on July 14, 2011 at his home address. During the preceding summer he used a fake name to develop a relationship with the teenager on social networking site Facebook. Clive, of Snipe Close, met up with the girl in south-east London to have sex with the victim on several occasions. She confided in a friend who contacted the police. Det Con Chris Hammond of the Met’s sex crime unit Sapphire said: “Steven Clive is a predatory paedophile who has targeted a vulnerable young girl to satisfy his own sexual needs.” Det Ch Insp Pete Thomas added: “The victim was targeted, groomed and exploited by Clive. “This crime again shows how the internet and social media can be used by paedophiles to snare their victims.” March 2013 Crayford predatory paedophile admits grooming 14-year-old girl on Facebook A “PREDATORY paedophile” from Crayford who groomed a “vulnerable” 14-year-old girl on Facebook has been convicted at the Old Bailey. Steven Clive used a fake name to develop his relationship with the victim between May and July 2011. The 35-year-old met with the young girl in south-east London on “several occasions” where he had sex with her. It was only when the teenager confided in a friend about the relationship that police became involved. Clive pleaded guilty yesterday to one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sexual activity with a child. Detective Constable Chris Hammond, of the Met Police’s Sapphire command, said: “Steven Clive is a predatory paedophile who has targeted a vulnerable young girl to satisfy his own sexual needs. “The MPS is dedicated to protecting the public from sexual predators and encourage victims to come forward. “They will be fully supported by specially trained officers.” Detective Chief Inspector Pete Thomas added: “The victim was targeted, groomed and exploited by Clive. “This crime again shows how the internet and social media can be used by paedophiles to snare their victims. “This conviction will provide reassurance that we will relentlessly pursue those who commit these dreadful crimes against children.” Clive will be sentenced at the same court on May 2.
