He claimed that he raped his partner to fulfill a sexual fantasy called “sleep play,” despite the victim having previously expressed disinterest in such acts. Court testimonies indicated that Carrie was sexually controlling and coerced the victim into engaging in unusual sexual activities. The victim testified that she woke up to find herself being raped, remaining frozen in fear with her eyes closed. Carrie continued his assault until she shouted, “what are you doing?”, at which point he ceased and told her to “press charges then.”
The psychological impact on the victim was profound. She was diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and experienced stress-induced seizures, which severely affected her daily life. The court heard how the trauma had lasting effects, causing significant mental health challenges.
On August 23, 2019, Glasgow High Court sentenced Carrie to 40 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charge of rape under Section 1 of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009. His plea was entered on July 18, 2019, at Edinburgh High Court. After serving his sentence, Carrie was released in 2021.
