STEVE BURT'S HORRIFIC 20-YEAR SEX ABUSE IN LONDON REVEALED
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the London community, Steven Burt, a 61-year-old man from Greenwich, has been sentenced to a staggering 32 years and six months behind bars for a prolonged and heinous series of sexual offenses spanning over two decades. At Isleworth Crown Court, Burt was found guilty of a total of 33 separate charges involving two male victims and four female victims, all of whom were known to him personally.
The crimes committed by Burt include a disturbing array of sexual misconduct, such as 14 counts of indecent assault on a male child, two counts of buggery of a male, four counts of buggery of a female, and eight counts of indecent assault on a female.
Additionally, he was convicted of two counts of indecency with a child, two counts of sexual intercourse with a child, and one count of actual bodily harm.
The court heard that Burt’s criminal activities date back to at least 1980, when he pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful intercourse with a child during an earlier hearing on February 27 at Isleworth Crown Court.
The most recent victim first came forward in 2014, revealing that Burt had abused him starting from the age of eight and continuing into his teenage years.
This disclosure prompted a police investigation that ultimately identified five other victims, all of whom had been subjected to Burt’s abuse in locations including Feltham and Plumstead.
The children affected ranged in age from just six to thirteen at the time of the abuse.
Steven Burt was arrested in November 2014 and faced formal charges on June 29, 2017.
The impact of his crimes has been profound, as reflected in the heartfelt testimony of one female victim who described her experience.
She recounted how the abuse had changed her life forever, instilling fear and shame that persisted for years.
She explained how Burt’s threats and manipulations made her believe she was to blame, and how she carried the dark secret with her, feeling isolated and ashamed.
Despite the trauma, she expressed a sense of empowerment after finally speaking out.
She described her feelings of relief and liberation, emphasizing that her courage to report the abuse helped her begin to heal.
Her words underscored a vital message: secrecy is a tool used by abusers to perpetuate their crimes, and breaking that silence is a crucial step toward justice and recovery.
Her story is a testament to the resilience of survivors and the importance of speaking out against abuse, no matter how difficult it may be.
Steven Burt’s sentencing marks a significant milestone in the fight against child sexual abuse in London, highlighting the importance of vigilance, support for victims, and the relentless pursuit of justice for those who have suffered in silence for too long.
