DUNFERMLINE MAN STEVEN ADAM SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND MANIPULATION
A man from Dunfermline, identified as Steven Adam, has been sentenced to prison following a series of abusive and manipulative actions aimed at his former partner. The 54-year-old resident of Islay Road was found guilty by a jury after a comprehensive trial held at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
The court heard that Adam engaged in a sustained pattern of abusive conduct towards his partner spanning from April 1, 2019, to September 13, 2020, with incidents occurring both on Islay Road and in other locations within Dunfermline.
One of the most troubling aspects of Adam’s behavior was his attempt to sever his partner’s connection to essential support services.
He sought to prevent her from accessing social work and mental health support by writing a deceptive letter to Fife Council’s social work department, impersonating her in an effort to halt their involvement.
This act was part of a broader campaign to isolate her from her support network during a period marked by ongoing domestic abuse that lasted over a year.
In addition to this, Adam engaged in further manipulative tactics by fabricating and sending a false letter to social workers, containing unfounded complaints.
He also instructed his partner to deny needing any assistance during phone calls, effectively sabotaging her efforts to seek help.
His harassment extended beyond written communication; he repeatedly called and texted her, making accusations of infidelity and claiming she was involved with various men sexually.
These persistent efforts to control and shame her culminated in him coercing her into recording a video in which she falsely claimed sexual relations with multiple men.
Adam also falsely claimed to possess a video of her admitting to being a prostitute, threatening to release it publicly if she did not comply with his demands.
Sheriff Susan Duff delivered the sentence, sentencing Adam to 30 months in jail.
Additionally, she imposed a three-year non-harassment order to prevent further contact or intimidation.
In her judgment, Sheriff Duff emphasized that Adam’s actions demonstrated a calculated pattern of domestic abuse, characterized by manipulative tactics designed to isolate and control his partner.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of such abusive behaviors and the importance of protecting victims from ongoing manipulation and harm.
