Steve Jolley

Stondon Massey Sexual Abuser

October 2001 Pop producer jailed over sex assault A pop record producer who wrote hits for Spandau Ballet and Bananarama has been jailed for indecently assaulting a boy. Steve Jolley, 51, of Stondon Massey, near Brentwood, Essex, also pleaded guilty at Southend Crown Court to taking indecent pictures of the 12-year-old. Jolley, a multi-millionnaire,also worked with Diana Ross, Kim Wilde and Alison Moyet during his career. His crimes came to light after detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s paedophile unit raided his home in May, the court heard on Friday. The raid was part of a probe into paedophile package tours to Prague organised by vile Spinks in which boys as young as ten were abused.  They found footage taken by Jolley of the assault on the boy, now 14, as well as a large amount of other indecent films. Judge Frank Lockhart said he was taking intoaccount Jolley’s guilty pleas and imposed concurrent sentences of 18 months and six months for the two offences. Detective Constable David Page, of the paedophile unit said after the hearing: “He knew the boy was 12. He covertly filmed the whole thing. “This boy is now having therapy. It is something he will take a long time to get over – if he ever gets over it.” Police said there was no evidence to indicate that the film found at Jolley’s home was for anything other than his own use. But Mr Page said: “What people must remember is that any time they get hold of indecent film of children or look at indecent pictures of youngsters on the internet then that means that some child somewhere has been exploited. “It’s a very difficult crime to police and we can only urge people not to look at such images. “We want to make parents aware that these people are out there and they must know where their children are and take care.” In the 1980s Jolley made Bananarama Britain’s best selling girl band with a string of hits, including Robert deNiro’s Waiting, Shy Boy and Cruel Summer. He produced their first three albums and Spandau Ballet’s biggest selling number one single True. He also co-wrote and helped produce the Alison Moyet hits All Cried Out and Love Resurrection.
