DENABY CHILD RAPIST STEPHEN RILEY SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC OFFENCES IN SHEFFIELD

In a case that has shocked the community of Denaby Main and the wider South Yorkshire area, Stephen Riley, aged 42, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving young children. The sentencing took place at Sheffield Crown Court, where Riley received a 15-year term for his disturbing actions, which included the rape of a child under 13, inciting two boys and one girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activities, and possessing indecent images of children.

The offences occurred in August 2016 and involved three young victims—two boys and one girl—all under the age of 13. Riley, who hails from Denaby Main, initially appeared in court in May, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the sexual offences and possession of indecent images. In addition to the sexual crimes, Riley admitted to possessing cannabis and engaging in sexual activity in front of a child.

The investigation into Riley was initiated in August of the previous year when police detained him for unrelated reasons. During the process, authorities seized his electronic devices, including a camcorder. Subsequent analysis revealed the presence of indecent images of children on his camera, some classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse. The discovery of these images prompted further scrutiny and led to Riley’s arrest and questioning.

Authorities uncovered over 90 videos depicting children, many of which were indecent and showed Riley approaching minors with inappropriate requests. The victims featured in these videos have been identified, and their families have been consulted. This evidence also uncovered additional offences, including the rape of a young girl. Despite the overwhelming evidence, Riley initially denied any involvement and claimed innocence regarding the material found on his devices. However, he ultimately pleaded guilty to all charges during a court hearing.

Riley’s actions have inflicted profound harm on the lives of his young victims, and his selfish pursuit of sexual gratification has been widely condemned. The offences, committed in August 2016, have left a lasting impact on the children involved and their families. Since his arrest in November last year, Riley has been held on remand at HMP Lincoln. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Friday, June 22, at Sheffield Crown Court, where he faces a lengthy prison term and extended licence period, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the community’s demand for justice.
