BONHILL MAN JAILED FOR GROPING GIRLS ON TRAIN
A BONHILL sex pest groped two terrified schoolgirls as they travelled home from school by train – then claimed he was so drunk he couldn’t remember what he’d done.Stephen McGlashan, 40, grabbed one of his victims by the bottom and touched the breast of the second, grabbed her clothing and tried to pull her towards him.
McGlashan was jailed on Friday for the horrific attack on the two 12-year-old girls, which took place on May 16 on board a train travelling between Renton and Alexandria.
His solicitor tried to persuade a court hearing that McGlashan should be rehabilitated in the community – but Sheriff John Hamilton said prison was his only option.
McGlashan, of O’Hare, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court to learn his fate after pleading guilty to two charges of sexual assault at a hearing on May 25, sentence having been deferred for a background report by social workers.
His criminal record includes offences for attacking a 15-year-old boy and shouting and swearing at police.
He was jailed for six months and put on the sex offenders’ register for two years.
On the day in question, according to you, you had had so much to drink that you had no recollection of what you were doing.
In view of that I can only impose a custodial sentence,” said Sheriff John Hamilton, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the impact on the victims.
