BOOZY BRUTE FLOORS WOMAN WITH SINGLE PUNCH IN CLUB ATTACK
A violent offender has been jailed after knocking an innocent woman unconscious with a single punch during a night out in Workington.
Stephen Leo McDowell, 24, had been drinking heavily when an argument broke out between him and his partner at Paduas nightclub on Washington Street on July 29.
As tensions escalated, Shannon Bell, a friend of McDowell’s partner, stepped in to defuse the situation.
CCTV footage played in Carlisle Crown Court showed McDowell striking Miss Bell in the face with his left fist.
She was immediately knocked out, falling to the ground with visible injuries, as McDowell walked away.
Miss Bell suffered a fractured eye socket, facial numbness, and reported feeling “sick and stressed” in the aftermath.
McDowell, of Eskdale Crescent, Workington, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
Judge James Adkin sentenced him to 22 months in prison, highlighting his “dreadful” record of violent offences.
“The video shows a forceful blow to the face of a woman who was clearly trying to calm things down and posed no threat,” said Judge Adkin.
A 10-year restraining order was also issued, banning McDowell from contacting his victim.
