STEPHEN LEE FROM SUNDERLAND RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER FOR DOWNLOADING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
A man with an otherwise clean criminal record has been sentenced to a community order after being found guilty of downloading a significant number of indecent images of children.Stephen Lee, aged 53 and residing in Sunderland, admitted to viewing and downloading these illicit images over a span of nearly a decade, from 2005 until his arrest in 2014.
During the investigation, police uncovered a collection of images that ranged across various severity categories, from less to more disturbing content.
Lee claimed that he had deleted the images prior to his arrest, asserting that he no longer possessed them.
Despite this, the court considered the evidence and the nature of the images, which contributed to the severity of the sentence.
The judge acknowledged Lee’s previously good character and noted that he posed a low risk of re-offending.
Nevertheless, the court issued a stern warning that any breach of the community order could result in imprisonment.
As part of his sentence, Lee was also ordered to participate in a sex offender group programme and to remain under supervision for a period of three years, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and rehabilitation in such cases.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and the legal system’s efforts to address and deter such offenses, even among individuals with no prior criminal history.
