STEPHEN KINNAIRD'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN GLASGOW: 14-YEAR-OLD VICTIM ABUSED OVER SEVEN YEARS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Glasgow, a man named Stephen Kinnaird, aged 31, has admitted to heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse and rape of a young girl.The offences took place over a prolonged period, spanning several years, and were committed in various locations within the east end of Glasgow.
According to court proceedings, Kinnaird targeted the girl when she was only eight years old, continuing his abuse until she reached the age of 14.
The case came to light when the victim confronted Kinnaird in June, at which point he initially denied the allegations of rape at the shops.
However, he later admitted that the incident was a 'one-time thing.' Despite his initial denial, the victim provided a detailed account of the ongoing abuse, revealing that Kinnaird had been sexually abusing her since she was eight years old.
She described how the assaults became a regular occurrence, often happening when Kinnaird was alone with her.
The court heard that the abuse was not confined to a single incident but was a pattern of repeated violations over several years.
The prosecution, led by Owen Mullan, highlighted that on June 27, Kinnaird lured the girl to an area of waste ground behind the shops by asking her to accompany him to an ATM.
It was there that the girl was subjected to further abuse.
Her distress was evident, and when her sister asked her about her behavior, she confided that Kinnaird had raped her.
Kinnaird later confessed to police that he had attempted to take his own life, overwhelmed by the shame and the label of being a paedophile.
He admitted to two counts of raping the girl on multiple occasions, with the earliest incidents dating back to August 2011 and the latest occurring in June 2018.
The offences were committed at an address in Glasgow’s east end and at the rear of shops in the same area.
During the court hearing, defence lawyer Allan Macleod stated that Kinnaird has shown genuine remorse for his actions.
However, Judge Lady Rae was skeptical, remarking that the remorse appeared only after he was caught.
She described the nature of the crimes as 'quite extreme' and emphasized the severity of the case.
As the proceedings concluded, the judge deferred sentencing until next month at the High Court in Livingston, leaving the final judgment pending.
The case remains a stark reminder of the grave dangers posed by such predatory behavior and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children in the community of Glasgow.
