NAKED ACTIVIST STEPHEN GOUGH JAILED FOR FIVE MONTHS OVER PUBLIC NUDITY
Stephen Gough, aged 53 and known as the naked rambler, has been sentenced to five months in prison for a breach of the peace. He was caught walking unclothed near a children's play park in Dunfermline, Fife, on 20 July and was subsequently jailed after he refused to cooperate with social workers assigned to assess his mental health.
Gough has a history of spending much of the past six years incarcerated on similar charges due to his public nudity and activism.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, he appeared naked in the dock and was sentenced by Sheriff James Williamson, who expressed concern about his behaviour in previous hearings.
Despite being ordered to undergo a mental health assessment, Gough indicated he had no intention of meeting officials, leading to the sentence.
A Crown Office spokesperson stated that Gough's actions, which included deliberately causing shock and alarm to children and their parents, made his arrest and prosecution necessary.
They emphasized that his conduct, particularly walking naked past a busy children's park despite police requests not to do so, was seen as deliberately provocative and constituted a breach of the peace.
