STEPHEN FALLOWS HALIFAX CRIMES: PAEDOPHILE ESCAPES JAIL SENTENCE DESPITE HORRIFIC ABUSE
In a case that has shocked the community of Halifax, Stephen Fallows, aged 50, was spared a prison sentence despite being convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The incident, which spanned over five years, involved repeated assaults that inflicted severe emotional trauma on the victim, to the extent that she attempted to take her own life.
According to reports, the young girl confided in nurses at Scarborough Hospital, revealing the abuse she endured at the hands of Fallows.
She expressed her despair and desire to die, which prompted authorities to arrest and interview Fallows.
During police questioning, he initially denied the allegations, dismissing them as “a load of rubbish.” However, midway through his trial, he pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent assault and two counts of sexual activity.
Fallows appeared before Hull Crown Court last Thursday to face sentencing.
Prosecutor Richard Woolfall highlighted that Fallows had a prior conviction at the age of 14 for an incident involving a three-year-old boy, where he removed the child's trousers and touched him.
Woolfall emphasized that the latest victim had kept her ordeal secret, hoping it would cease.
She was told by Fallows that she must not tell anyone else whenever she was touched, which compounded her trauma.
Defense lawyer Malcolm Noel argued that, aside from his early conviction, Fallows could be considered a man of good character.
He urged the court to consider a non-custodial sentence, citing Fallows’s cooperation with authorities and suggesting that imprisonment was unnecessary.
Judge Michael Mettyear, presiding over the case, decided on a community-based punishment.
Fallows, who now resides on Stainland Road, West Vale, Halifax, was ordered to complete a three-year community order.
The judge also prohibited him from working with children, mandated that he sign the National Sex Offenders’ Register, and ordered him to pay court costs of £750.
In his remarks, Judge Mettyear acknowledged that it was uncommon for cases of a sexual nature to result in no prison time.
He noted that, in Fallows’s case, the offending had not escalated beyond touching.
The judge remarked, “It is quite clear that you have a problem with committing offences against youngsters, but it is something you have been able to control for a long time.” He further stated, “The probation officers say you are not in denial.
Time will tell.
You must realize that by giving you a chance, this will be your last.
Any future sexual offenses will result in a lengthy prison sentence.” While the decision has sparked debate, the court’s ruling reflects a complex balance between justice and rehabilitation, with authorities emphasizing the importance of monitoring Fallows’s behavior moving forward.
