STEPHEN COLLIER IN S SUNDERLAND SENTENCED FOR INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
In June 2021, Stephen Collier, a Sunderland resident, was found to have a collection of indecent images of children, including one showing a baby in discernible pain or distress.Collier had actively searched for such material, using search terms like "pre teen" and "incest 10-year-old girl," which prompted police to locate the images on his computer hard drives.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that officers responded to his home on North Hylton Road in Sunderland in April of the previous year, where they confiscated his electronic devices.
The investigation uncovered 33 of the most serious, categorized as category A images, along with 52 category B and 40 category C images.
The minors depicted ranged in age from one to 15.
During police interviews, Collier claimed that he believed he had been downloading legal pornography; he stated he had deleted the indecent images, but they had subsequently re-downloaded onto his devices.
The 56-year-old, who had no prior convictions, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work.
He is also required to register as a sex offender and will be under a sexual harm prevention order for ten years.
Judge Julie Clemitson emphasized the severity of the images, stating: "The images include some of extremely young children, as young as one, including one where a young child is distressed.
You deliberately sought out such images.
You were looking for not just images of children but those with an incestuous element and depictions of rape.
Most were recovered from deleted files.
You need to acknowledge viewing images of children perpetuates the harm of children all around the world who are raped and abused."
