STEPHEN BONNETT SENTENCED FOR FAILING TO REPORT STAY IN HOUSE WITH CHILD IN CHESHIRE
A 27-year-old man from Cheshire West was recently sentenced to imprisonment after failing to disclose his presence at a residence with a child, violating police reporting requirements.Stephen Bonnett, whose address is on Mayfield Road in Northwich, appeared before Chester Magistrates Court on June 16 to face charges related to his failure to comply with legal obligations concerning household stay notifications.
The charges stem from Bonnett's conduct between May 6 and May 10, 2022, during which he did not inform authorities within three days about his residence at a property where a child was present, for a period of at least 12 hours.
Further charges covered the period from May 11 to May 14 of the same year, highlighting a pattern of non-compliance.
Despite Bonnett’s decision to plead guilty to the charges, the court took into account his history of similar offenses.
Given his previous convictions of a comparable nature, the magistrates decided that a custodial sentence was necessary to serve as both punishment and deterrent.
As a result, Stephen Bonnett was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison.
In addition to serving time behind bars, he was ordered to pay court costs amounting to £85, along with a surcharge of £156.
The case underscores the importance of adhering to reporting obligations, particularly for individuals with a history of related offenses, and highlights the legal consequences of failing to comply with such regulations in Cheshire.
