MANCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR PETROL BOMB MURDER OF SISTER
Stephen Archer, aged 51 and residing on Victoria Street in Openshaw, Manchester, was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court of the murder of his sister, Julie, who was 49 years old, in February 2016.
The court was told that Archer attacked Julie by throwing a petrol bomb at her, causing 95% burns, which led to her death three days later.
He received a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years before being considered for parole.
Evidence presented in court indicated that Archer had previously falsely accused his sister of murdering their father and uncle, as well as tampering with a will to exclude him.
During the attack, Archer poured flammable liquid on her and ignited the vapors while she was seated on a sofa, creating injuries described as resembling a scene from a horror film.
Julie’s 19-year-old daughter, who is also her niece, managed to escape with minor injuries after jumping from a window.
The family dog was also killed in the fire.
Archer was acquitted of charges related to arson intended to threaten his niece’s life.
