SECURITY GUARD SOLA AUSTIN WARIKWAH JAILED IN LONDON FOR RAPE
A security guard based in Deptford, Sola Austin Warikwah, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of rape.Warikwah, 39, of Albyn Road, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, December 17, where he received his sentence.
He was also ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and will be on the sex offenders register for life.
The incident involved a woman who mistook his car for a mini-cab while she was intoxicated and in central London.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Easter Monday, April 22, 2019.
The victim, who was in her twenties, had been drinking at a nightclub in Bethnal Green before heading toward the Embankment area nearby.
Warikwah, a security patrol manager employed by Securitas, was responsible for patrolling various central London sites, including a car park in Belgravia where the rape took place.
His duties spanned from 7 pm on April 21 to 7 am on April 22.
During her ordeal, the victim managed to contact a friend, sending messages that read: "I've been raped.
I feel sick.
This taxi won't take me home.
I'm scared." She subsequently escaped from the vehicle, taking photographs of her attacker as he walked away.
Warikwah was detained at his home address in Deptford two days after the incident.
Detective Sergeant John Paton, of the Westminster Sapphire Team in the Safeguarding Unit, commented: "Sola Austin Warikwah is a predatory sex offender who targeted a vulnerable, unsuspecting woman travelling alone.
Due to the courage and quick thinking of the victim, help from the public, and the thoroughness of the investigation, a dangerous offender has been removed from society, ensuring he is no longer a threat to women.
I sincerely hope that the sentence handed down today encourages other victims of sexual offences to come forward."
