SOHAIL AHMED'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN GLASGOW: RAPE AND ABDUCTION SHOCK MARYHILL
A man from Glasgow, Sohail Ahmed, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the abduction and sexual assault of two women he had recently met.His actions have left the victims deeply traumatized, and his case has sparked concern over the dangers posed by such predators in the community.
Ahmed, aged 51, is accused of holding his victims hostage during the assaults, with one incident occurring just days before Christmas 2022.
The first victim, a 41-year-old escort, was contacted by Ahmed online and agreed to visit his flat in the Maryhill area of Glasgow.
However, once there, Ahmed detained her against her will, preventing her from leaving.
Despite her attempts to escape, he forcibly restrained her, ultimately assaulting her.
During the police investigation, officers found her fleeing in a distressed state, and it was revealed that Ahmed had locked her in and raped her.
In court, Ahmed denied the charges, claiming that the woman was free to leave at any time, but prosecutors presented evidence showing he forced her onto a bed and committed the assault.
In a separate incident in August 2023, Ahmed engaged in a conversation with another woman and convinced her to accompany him back to his flat.
During this encounter, he spiked her drink, causing her to lose consciousness.
When police arrived at the scene, Ahmed attempted to conceal his actions by hiding the unconscious woman under his bed, covered with a duvet.
The police found her in this distressed state, and evidence, including DNA, linked Ahmed to the assault.
Ahmed had already been charged prior to these incidents for sending inappropriate texts and voicemails, and he was on bail when the second attack occurred.
He has now been convicted of two counts of abduction and rape, as well as for sending indecent communications.
His actions have been described by prosecutors as systematic and dangerous, prompting the court to consider a full risk assessment to determine the potential threat he poses to the public.
Following his conviction, Ahmed was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court next month.
During the trial, the court heard testimony from the victims, with Lord Harrower praising their bravery for coming forward and sharing their experiences.
Prosecutors emphasized the severity of Ahmed's crimes, and the judge acknowledged the need for strict sentencing given the nature of his offenses.
