SLAWOMIR GIERLOWSKI'S BRUTAL CRIMES IN DUBLIN: SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO ADDITIONAL TEN YEARS
In September 2021, a notorious sex offender named Slawomir Gierlowski received an additional ten-year prison sentence following a violent late-night attack in Dublin. The incident involved Gierlowski attempting to sexually assault a woman in a public setting, an act that further cemented his reputation as a dangerous individual with a history of violent crimes.
Gierlowski, who is 36 years old, had already been serving a lengthy prison term for a series of previous attacks.
In 2018, he was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison, with four years of that sentence suspended.
This sentence was the result of a conviction for multiple random assaults on women that took place in the Clondalkin area of Dublin between 2011 and 2016.
The attacks were characterized by their unpredictability and brutality, leaving a trail of trauma among the victims.
Following a trial at the Central Criminal Court in May 2019, Gierlowski, a resident of Drimnagh, Dublin, was convicted on charges including attempted rape, sexual assault, and assault causing harm.
His criminal record and the severity of his crimes underscored the dangerous nature of his actions and the ongoing threat he posed to society.
In August 2021, a woman who had previously fought off Gierlowski during one of his serial attacks expressed her relief after he lost an appeal against his prison sentence.
This woman, Ruth Maxwell, recounted her harrowing experience from May 2016, when she was walking to the Luas tram in Clondalkin to go to work.
Gierlowski, who was then living in Galtymore Drive, Drimnagh, had approached her with a hunting knife pressed against her throat.
Despite the threat, Ruth managed to defend herself and escape, suffering a severe injury to her hand in the process.
Ruth described her feelings of relief and the importance of justice being served, stating, “I take each day at a time according to how my hand functions.
I’m naturally upbeat and positive so that helps.
It will be a relief to get closure from the judicial system because that in itself is a traumatic experience.” She also emphasized that the evidence against Gierlowski was overwhelming, citing uncontested DNA evidence and the escalation of his violent behavior as reasons why his appeal was unlikely to succeed.
“Society is lucky he was caught and is behind bars,” she added.
Gierlowski’s criminal activities extended beyond sexual assaults.
Authorities linked him to the possession of a hunting knife, duct tape, and cable ties—items that were used during his attacks.
Law enforcement officials traced a suspect van to Gierlowski, and DNA evidence found under the nails of one victim, as well as semen on the clothing of another, confirmed his involvement.
The items found in his van and near the scenes of the assaults further implicated him in the series of violent crimes.
Gierlowski’s case continues to develop, with separate courts scheduled to sentence him for other related offenses in the coming months.
His criminal history and the recent convictions highlight the ongoing efforts of the Dublin police and judicial system to ensure that he remains behind bars and that justice is served for his victims.
